Dog Friendly Recipes: The West Paw Toppl

The West Paw Toppl. If you’ve been scrolling social media as a dog parent you have most likely stumbled across these on your fyp as an easy to clean, easy to use, food enrichment toy. As an easily influenced pet parent myself, I bought two! And I have to say they live up to the hype. The toppl is perfect both for when you want a simple enrichment toy to put kibble in or if you’re looking to create fun instgrammable dog meals. Below are my favorite recipes I have tried out so far, hope you enjoy!

Sushi Roll

Sometimes your pup is just craving a sushi roll, and who are we to deny them? Cook white rice and mix in chopped carrots, cucumbers, and your fish of choice (we went with dried minnow treats). Once its all mixed you can scoop into you toppl add add broth or water if you plan to freeze for a longer meal experience. For our toppings we added plain unseasoned nori, dried minnows, and rolled carrots.

INGREDIENTS:

  • White Rice

  • PLAIN Nori

  • Diced Carrot

  • Diced Cucumber

  • Minnows / Fish of Choice

  • Broth or Water to Freeze

Breakfast of Champions

This is the only recipe that requires a bit of cooking. Cook scrambled eggs and chopped turkey bacon, and then mix together in a bowl with diced sweet potatoes (and optional kibble). Scoop into you toppl and voila, the breakfast of champions! For our topping we added sweet potatoes, turkey bacon, and a small fried egg. Add broth or water if freezing.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Eggs (1-2 scrambled, 1 for topping)

  • Diced Sweet Potato

  • Turkey Bacon (1-2 chopped, 1-2 for topping)

  • Broth or Water to Freeze

Shepherds Pie

An easy few ingredient toppl. All you need is kibble, peas, carrots, and greek yogurt. Dice carrots before adding them along with the peas, kibble, and 1-2 tablespoons of plain greek yogurt into a bowl. Mix well and then scoop into your topple, adding a thin layer of yogurt on top to help stick your favorite topping onto. For my toppings I added carrots, broccoli, and a homemade ice pawp. Freeze and enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Kibble or Ground Meat of Choice

  • Peas

  • Diced Carrots

  • Plain Greek Yogurt

Strawberry Pawrfait

This is hands down the easiest recipe here, with only two ingredients: strawberries and plain greek yogurt. Roughly chop your strawberries and then add alternating layers of strawberry and greek yogurt, like a parfait! I added two whole strawberries to the top to make it look extra cute. Freeze and enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Roughly chopped strawberries

  • Plain greek yogurt

Thoughts on The Toppl

Personally, I really enjoy the West Paw toppl. Compared to other similar feeding toys like the Kong Classic, the toppl is easier to clean and is much easier for your dog to reach all of the food in the feeder. Toppl’s especially work for my puppy, Cookie, who isn’t as food motivated and will abandon a toy where she cant easily reach the food. That being said, they are also on the pricier side if you are comparing them to the Kong Classic or some other amazon slow feeders. Picking the right enrichment toys really depend on you and your dog, and for us the West Paw Toppl is working wonders.
